Mario Rojas (Pereira, Colombia/Yorktown) took a cross pass from sophomore
Saif Zureikat (Amman, Jordan/Cardozo) and sent to the bottom right corner of the net to score his second goal of the season in the 77th minute to the Hawks a 1-0 lead and eventual victory over the City College of New York Wednesday night in a CUNY Athletic Conference men's soccer match on Randall's Island.
The Hawks played a strong offensive match, out shooting the Beavers 23-10 and also attempting 11 corner kicks with CCNY taking just three. On defense, the Hawks limited CCNY to only four shots in the second half, only one of which was on goal.
Freshman keeper
Alexandre Ilic (Miami, FL/Miami Killian Senior High) made five saves in net while recording his first collegiate shutout for Hunter. Freshman Tayfun Kucuk made five saves in net for the Beavers.
Following tonight's victory, the Hawks improve to 2-7-1 on the year and are 2-2 in the CUNYAC, while CCNY falls to 1-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference. Hunter will be back on the pitch on Saturday, when they travel to Jamaica, NY to face N.Y. City Tech on the home field of York College for a 3:00 p.m. match.
