On Tuesday, October 19, the women's tennis team hosted the Beavers of CCNY in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Championship held at the USTA National Tennis Center. After sweeping all three doubles matches, the Hawks needed two singles wins to secure the match and they succeeded, defeating CCNY 5-0. With the win, Hunter advances to the quarterfinals where they will take on Lehman College.
Jane Selegean and Ericka Jaramillo kicked off the competition as they teamed up at first doubles and notched the first win for the Hawks, 8-0 against Darya Vasendin and LaPortia Hackworth. The team of Stefanie Smith and Arielle Kamin played at second doubles while Jessica Yi and Katyhara De Los Santos rounded out the doubles in the third slot, each team securing a win by an 8-1 margin.
With a 3-0 lead, the Hawks needed just two wins in singles to claim the victory and advance. Selegean, playing at first singles, notched the first for the Hawks as she defeated Vasendin 6-0, 6-1. At third singles, Smith recorded the fifth and final win on the day as she cruised 6-0, 6-1 against Natalie Saint Eloi.
The Hawks advance to the semifinal round where they will take on the Lightning of Lehman College on Friday, October 22 at the USTA National Tennis Center. The contest is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
