Queens, NY - On Monday night, November 22, the swim team traveled across the bridge into the borough of Queens to take on the Knights of Queens College in their toughest meet of the season. Despite nine second place finishes, the Hawks only managed to tally 88 points compared to the Knight's 185, suffering their second loss of the year, falling to 3-2.
The meet kicked off with the 200 yard Medley Relay in which the Hawk quartet of
Jennifer Dzurita,
Marian Wu,
Gloria Reyna and
Tiffany Magno set a season best of 2:16.74, shaving just over five seconds off their previous time and taking second place in the process.
Three of Hunter's second place finishes came from Dzurita as she swam in the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.60), 50 yard freestyle (28.64) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:33.30). Stefphanie Doetzkies set a personal best in the 200 breaststroke, beating her time by nine seconds and stopping the clock at 3:15.55 which was good enough for a second place finish.
Other highlights included
Stephanie Benenati setting a season best in the 200 yard breaststroke as she placed third with a time of 3:16.80, 1.33 seconds better than her previous time.
The Hawks return to the pool when they host Brooklyn College on Tuesday, November 30 at 6:00 pm.
