Box Score - Bard
On Saturday, September 11, the soccer team traveled to Annondale-on-Hudson, New York to take part in the two-day tournament hosted by Bard College. On the first day, the Hawks ventured into their second straight double overtime game and wound up with a tie against the Jays of Polytech. The following day, they took on Bard in their second and final game but despite jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the Hawks fell 3-1 bringing their record to 2-2-1.
The first game of the tournament, neither team could capitalize on their scoring chances. The Hawks were out-shot 12-5 but had the upper hand over Polytech in corners, 4-1. Through 90 minutes of regulation time, the score remained knotted at zero and it's how the game would end. Keeper Zade Haobsh had a busy afternoon as he recorded nine saves on the day.
On the second day, in just the ninth minute into the game, junior Danny Vera fired a shot from outside the box which beat keeer Deven Connolly to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Senior Anthony Intrabartolo was credited with the assist. For the rest of the first half, the two teams played evenly as both recorded seven shots while Bard tallied two corners to Hunter's one. However, less than five minutes into the second half, the Jays struck with shot by Jacob Hartog to beat Haobsh for the equalizer.
Darwin Gramajoand Aykut Can were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, September 15 when they play host to New York City College of Technology in their first CUNYAC matchup. The game is slated for a 5:00 pm start at Randall's Island, Field #10.
