Soccer Plays City Tech to a Tie

On Wednesday, September 15, the men's soccer team played host to the Yellow Jackets of City Tech in a conference matchup at Randall's Island. Deadlocked at zero through 90 minutes of regulation, the two teams continued to battle through two overtime periods with neither side being able to score, resulting in a tie. With the stalemate, the Hawks record now stands at 2-2-2, 0-0-1 CUNYAC while the Yellow Jackets own a 1-1-1, 0-0-1 CUNYAC record.

City Tech had the first opportunity early in the game in the eigth minute as Vincent Mark dribbled down the right side with a chance to score, but was stopped by keeper Zade Haobsh as he came out and broke the play up. While Hunter controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, they couldn't capitalize on any shots to take a lead.

As the second half got underway, in the 52nd and  53rd minutes, each team had opportunites to score as the Hawks had the first attempt on a Danny Vera shot on goal but was saved. City Tech came back with a chance of their own as the Yellow Jackets quickly moved the ball up field, but were called for offsides.

In the two overtime periods, play was yet again equal as neither team could create enough of an opportunity to get a clear shot on goal. Overall, the Hawks had the upper hand as they out-shot the Yellow Jackets 13-5 and had three more corner opportunites. Haobsh recorded two saves while Nelson Restrepo made 10.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Septebmer 18 when they travel to Purchase, New York for a non-conference match up against Manhattanville. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
