On Saturday, September 4, the men's soccer team traveled to Kings Point to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a non-conference game. The two teams were knotted at zero through the first 54 minutes of play until the Mariners struck first and then again with time winding down to take the win, 2-0.
Through the first half of the game, the Hawks struggled on the offensive end as they didn't manage to get a single shot on goal while USMMA had nine opportunities. In the 55th minute, Alex Maney sent a pass to Dan Twito who found the back of the net to put his team up 1-0. In the 84th minute, the Mariners struck again, this time on an unassisted goal by Ryan Silveira to put the score at 2-0 which is how the game would end. Hunter fought hard but only managed to get one shot on goal while USMMA had 16. Hawk keeper Zade Haobsh (Wayne, NJ, DePaul Catholic) took the loss despite his seven saves on the day.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 8 for their first home game of the season when they play host to the Rams of Farmingdale State at Randall's Island (Field #10) at 5:00 pm.
