Hawks Prevail in Back and Forth Affair; Defeat FDU-Florham 55-40

NEW YORK, NY –
The Hunter College women's swim team prevailed in a back and forth affair, defeating visiting Farleigh Dickinson University at Florham, 55-40 in the North Pool on Tuesday evening.

The victory improves the Hawks to 2-0 on the early season while the Devils dropped to 1-2.

Hunter got out to an early lead, claiming wins in the first two events as the Hawks' 200-yard medley team, including Marian Wu, Sara Pazmino, Juliette Collazo and Charlotte Collazo bested the field with a time of 2:08.64 to earn the victory.

Briana DiGiore earned the win in the 1000 yard freestyle, taking first place in 12:54.95 while teammate Ivanna Tellez finished second in 13:04.71.

Lauren Socienski paced the field in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 2:11.69 ahead of Hawk Jennifer Dzurita who took second with a 2:15.62 timestamp.

The back and forth affair continued in the 50 yard freestyle as Devils Melanie Allen and Socienski teamed up to take first and second while Pazino and Tiffany Magno took third and fourth in 28.83 and 29.15 respectively.

Wu won the 200 yard individual medley, finishing in 2:38.58 then Tellez took second in the 200 yard butterfly, behind Devil Allen. Similarly, Scocienski won the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 59.92, pushing Dzurita and Charlotte Collazo into second and third place in 1:00.51 and 1:02.34 respectively.

The Hawks turned up the intensity from there, claiming first place in each race to finish the meet strongly. Wu got the ball rolling as she earned first place in the 200 yard backstroke, swimming in 2:35.94.

In the 500 yard freestyle DiGiore took first place in a time of 6:12.83 a good 28 seconds ahead of the competition while the 200 yard breaststroke also went to Hunter as Pazmino tapped in at 2:52.55 to claim the victory. Hunter's 200 freestyle relay team, including Tellez, DiGiore, Dzurita and Magno outswam the competition, finishing first in 1:57.54 to seal the victory for the Hawks.

Hunter returns to action on Tuesday, November 8 when they play host to CUNYAC foe York College. The meet is slated to start at 6 pm in the North Pool—located on the “C” level of the North Building.
