BROOKYLN, NY – The Hunter College women's swimming team continued its dominant performance in CUNYAC action, defeating Brooklyn College 127.50 – 67.50 at the West Quad Center Pool on Wednesday evening.
The Hawks tapped in for 20 top-three finishes, including nine wins in the 13 event meet to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the CUNYAC. Brooklyn drops to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Hunter's “B” relay consisting of Marian Wu, Sara Pazmino, Courtney McEvoy Lee and Jennifer Dzurita opened the meet with a convincing win in the 200-yard medley relay, taking first place in 2:07.48 ahead of the Hawks' “C” squad as Chryzl Goco, Charlotte Collazo, Gloria Reyna and Christina Chu took second in 2:15.08.
The 1000-yard freestyle saw the Hawks finish first and third with Axinia Gamez (15:26.75) and Melissa Cruz (16:04.81) tapping into those slots respectively.
The Hawks continued building momentum with strong swims in the 200-yard freestyle as Tiffany Magno (2:21.09), Wu (2:21.45) and Paulina Backiel (2:43.22) finished first, second and third.
Hunter managed a similar result in the 50-yard freestyle, sweeping the top three slots as Dzurita (27.70), Pazmino (28.63) and Kristy Kyi (34.25) swam for victory.
McEvoy Lee continued the streak of first place finishes for Hunter as she won the 200-yard individual medley, finishing the race in 2:38.44.
Ivanna Tellez claimed an impresive win in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:13.19 after turning in a third place finish in the 200-yard medley (2:44.83) moments before.
Magno picked up her second win of the evening, splitting first place with Brooklyn in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:02.95 timestamp.
Goco would round out the Hunter victories for the evening with a strong swim in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.04 to take first place.
Hunter returns to the pool this Friday, December 2nd for homecoming as they host College of Saint Elizabeth in the North Pool at 6pm.
