Men's Soccer Drops Two at Scarlet Raider Tournament

The Hawks continue to search for their first win of the season.

Newark, NJ - The men's soccer team played two games over the weekend at the Scarlet Raider Classic hosted by Rutgers-Newark. After dropping a 3-0 decision to Drew University on Saturday, the Hawks were unable to bounce back and fell 4-0 on Sunday against the hosts. With the two losses, the Hawks slip to 0-5 and continue to search for their first victory of the season.

The rangers of Drew put the Hawk defense to teh test early on, rattling off 13 shots in the first half alone. Keeper Zade Haobsh was kept on his toes but helped his team remain in the game with nine first half saves and not allowing a goal. The Purple and Gold's offense struggled to get any momementum going and managed just two shots on goal.

In the 64th minute, Drew put in their first goal, courtesy of Tommy Tolve. The Rangers followed that up with two more goals in the 73rd and 78th minutes which essentiall put the game out of reach. Hunter had just three shots on goal, two by freshman Jack Andrade and one by Jaison Moreno. Haobsh made nine saves in the loss.

Against Rutgers-Newark, Gabriel Avans of the Scarlet Raiders set the tone early on with a goal in the 10th minute, forcing the Hawks to play down from the get-go. Before halftime, Robi Rosario tacked on another score, increasing the deficit in which Hunter would struggle to overcome.

After a four-shot first half, the Purple and Gold's offense managed just one other shot in the final 45 minutes of play. Two more Scarlet Raider goals in the 73rd and 90th minutes closed the books on the Hawk's second loss of the tournament.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, September 15 when they host the Cougars of Kean University at 5pm on Randall's Island.
