Women's Tennis Wins First Match of Post-Season Play

Hawks prepare for NCAA Regionals

Flushing, N.Y. - The women's tennis team defeated the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington 6-3 this past Friday night at the USTA Tennis Center.

The Hawks, who won their 13th consecutive CUNYAC Championship over CSI in the fall are in their spring season and are preparing for the NCAA Regionals in May.

The Lady Hawks had a clean sweep of all three doubles, having Stephanie Ahwiring and Angelina Usherenko blank second doubles 8-0.  Sheena Joseph and Gina Yeo followed soon after winning in the first slot 8-4 while Caroline Kaleda and Beth Chapnick won 8-5 in the third slot.

Joseph went on to win her first singles match 6-0, 6-3 while Ahwiring went on to win 6-0, 6-2 in the second slot. Yeo also won her third match in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (7-2), 7-5.

The Hawks are back in action on April 3rd, when they play host to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz.
