Hawks Soccer Stumble in Double Overtime to St. Mary’s, 0-1

BOX SCORE Salisbury, MD - The Hawks battled in a double overtime heartbreaker, falling to St. Mary's College, 0-1 on Friday, August 30th at the Elmer Lord Soccer Classic. Hunter's goalie, Emmanuel Aprilakis tied his career-high with seven saves against the Seahawks.

Both teams defended their goals in the season opener for the Hawks and the Seahawks. The Hawks got off to a slow offensive start, while St. Mary's were the aggressors with nine shot attempts in the first period and 12 in the second period. The Seahawks finished with 27 shot attempts and 18 corner kicks.

Hunter had their lone shot attempt by midfielder Brandon Fiscina. Fiscina drilled a shot on goal at the 76:20 mark in the second half, but St. Mary's defense blocked the attempt.

Hunter's Emmanuel Aprilakis jumped off to a great start this season with seven stops tying his career-high against the College of Staten Island in 2012. Aprilakis saved one shot in the first period and two in each of the remaining three periods.

St. Mary's was awarded a corner kick with 25 seconds remaining in the second overtime when Aprilakis saved a shot out of bounds. At the 109:56 mark, St. Mary's Rickie Kalama's corner kick curled in for the game-winning goal.
