Madison, NJ - In the early match, three Hawks reached double-figure kills in a 2-3 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson University on Wednesday, September 4
th in Madison, NJ. Then, Hunter battled Stevens Institute of Technology and suffered their second defeat, 0-3.
Hunter regrouped after dropping the first set 25-13, with an improved 41% team attack in the second set.
Karolina Gajda had six kills to lead Hunter in a 25-14 victory tying the match up. Fairleigh Dickinson committed six errors in that set while Hunter minimized their errors and exploded for 15 team kills. Hunter's
Kristine Ciurcina recorded 11 assists in that second set and
Alisa Jaganjac led defensively with seven digs.
In the third set, Fairleigh Dickinson grabbed the momentum with 17 kills to Hunter's 10 kills. The Hawks dominated the net with six assisted blocks.
Stephanie Taibe added four kills in that set to lead the Hawks, but Hunter went down 22-25, in a close battle giving Fairleigh Dickinson the 2-1 series lead.
With their backs against the wall down 2-1, the Hawks responded by forcing the Knights into 12 errors. Hunter improved posting 10 kills and two errors, winning the fourth set 25-14.
Taylor Kordich had three kills while
Samantha Barrett,
Lucia Stosic, and
Karolina Gajda all had two kills each in that set.
In the final set, Hunter was unable to connect on critical attack moments against the Fairleigh Dickinson defense and fell, 15-12. The Hawks had seven kills while the Knights had 10 kills to seal the victory.
Overall, the Hawks combined for 49 kills and 67 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Kristine Ciurcina netted 36 assists for Hunter and
Lucia Stosic posted two solo blocks and six assisted blocks.
Stephanie Taibe led with 13 kills,
Karolina Gajda had 12, and
Taylor Kordich finished with 11. Defensively, Hunter's
Alisa Jaganjac recorded a game-high 21 digs while
Kristine Ciurcina had 11, and
Stephanie Taibe added 10 digs of her own.
In their next match against Stevens Institute of Technology,
Lucia Stosic led Hunter with six kills in a 0-3 defeat. Hawks' setter
Kristine Ciurcina paced Hunter with 23 assists and
Alisa Jaganjac had 10 digs to lead defensively. Hunter recorded nine kills in the first set, eight in the second set, then an impressive 11 in the third set.
Taylor Kordich and
Stephanie Taibe both had five kills while
Samantha Barrett added four of her own.
The Hawks look to bounce back when they host New York University in their next match on Tuesday, September 10
