RESULTS
CAMDEN, NJ – The Hunter women's tennis team took on Rutgers-Camden Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Scarlet Raptors defeated the Hawks 5-4 in a very competitive match.
The Hawks started strong in the doubles competition going 2-1. #1 doubles pair of
Abigail Rojas &
Sara Beck battled in their match losing a tough 8-4 decision. #2 doubles pair
Marie Visker &
Pauline McGlone also battled but they dropped their decision 8-2.
Paulina Szegda & Linda Yohannes won by default in the #3 doubles match.
"We started out well in doubles," said head coach
Erienne Gale. "We had great points but just couldn't hold on to get the win."
In singles the Hawks showed great improvement getting three wins. #2 singles
Abigail Rojas won her matchup against Angela Errigo 6-4, 6-4. #5 singles
Sara Beck defeated Christine Abacan 6-3, 6-1 while #6 singles
Pauline McGlone won by default.
The best match of the afternoon was in the #4 singles between Theresa Adamson and
Paulina Szegda. Szedga dropped the 1
st set 6-0 but fought to force a tie-breaker in the 2
nd set which she eventually lost 7-6 (7-4).
"We regrouped in singles play and Sara (Beck) had a great match," said coach Gale. "She was able move her opponent up and down the court to secure the win. Paulina fought to force the 2
nd set tie-breaker but just fell short."
The Hawks return to action on Saturday September 20 when they open up CUNYAC play against Lehman College at 12pm.
