New York, NY - Hunter College women's swimming opened up the 2016-17 season with a win over conference opponent John Jay College on Friday night, defeating the Bloodhounds with a score fo 61-29 at the North Pool.
The Hawks start off CUNYAC play 1-0 as they look for their third-straigtht conference championship this season.
The 200 yard medley relay team of
Kelly Xue,
Carla Canning,
Lindsey Pero and
Alexandra Rubiano started things off with a first-place finished and a time of 1:59.38.
From there, newcomer Sera Knbler got the first-place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:32.47, only ten seconds away from the Hunter record.
Emily DiPaola and
Amanda Iken went first and second, respectively, in the 200 yard freestyle as Iken trailed DiPaola by just two seconds.
Lindsey Pero placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.24, almost beating her personal record in the first meet of the year.
The Hawks continued the streak as Rubiano took first in two more events (200 yard IM and 100 yard freestyle), Pero placed first in the 100 yard butterfly and Xue took first in the 100 yard backstroke.
The team will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they travel to York College for a 6 p.m. meet.
