New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's swimming dropped just its second meet of the season on Tuesday night, falling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a score of 56-39 at the North Pool. The team took the time to honor their two seniors before the meet;
Irene Collins and Hanaa Lacchab.
The Hawks started off the night with a second-place finish from the 200 yard medley relay team of
Gabrielle Oczos,
Virginia Anne Dundon, Hanaa Lacchab and
Ariel Tsai, who finished the race with a time of 2:00.66.
Irene Collins earned a second-place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle, before
Katherine Lee scored three points for the Hawks with a second-place in the 200 yard free. Lee followed that up with another second-place, posting a time of 1:00.63 in the 100 yard free.
Lacchab added to the second-place spots, notching a time of 2:36.55 in the 200 yard butterfly for the sixth event of the night.
Sera Knobler gave the Hawks six points by placing second in the 400 yard IM, as well as the 500 yard freestyle.
Oczos recorded Hunter's lone individual first-place finish in the meet, winning the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:23.13.
The team wrapped up the meet on a high note, getting the win in a very close 200 yard freestyle relay as Oczos, Lee,
Ariel Tsai and
Alice Tsai edged out the Mariners with a time of 1:48.69.
The squad returns to the pool on Friday, January 18 when they travel to Baruch College.
