New York, NY – The swimming and diving team had their home opener of the 2019-20 season with a meet against Division II opponent Queens College. Behind the strength of five individual event winners and two first play finishes in the relay events, the Hawks swam away with a 60-35 win over the Knights.
Kicking off the first event was
Sarah Betts,
Virginia Anne Dundon,
Gabrielle Oczos and
Katherine Lee who combined to win the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 2:01.52.
Sarah Decker secured the first of Hunter's five individual event wins after posting a time of 12:04.90 in the 1000 yard freestyle, besting second place by 15 seconds. She also out-swam her competitors in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:49.67.
Dundon was also a double event winner. She picked up a victory in the 200 yard IM after stopping the clock in 2:34.40 and then won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:13.79 which was nearly seven seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Rounding out the fifth and final first place finish was
Alice Tsai. The sophomore swam the 50 yard freestyle and touched the wall in 27.28 seconds.
Capping the dual meet was the 200 yard freestyle relay team comprised of Oczos,
Cloe Mueller, Lee and Betts. The quartet combined for a time of 1:53.38 to put the finishing touches on the meet win.
The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, November 23 when they travel to Patchogue, NY to compete against St. Joseph's College – Long Island at 1pm.
