Men's Volleyball Gets Fifth-Straight in Victory Over NJCU

Hawks Defeat Gothic Knights in Three

Jersey City, N.J. - Hunter College men's volleyball swept New Jersey City University on Thursday night in a three-set match with scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-23.

The win was Hunter's fifth-straight as they improved to 5-3 this season, while the Gothic Knights even out to a record of 3-3.

The Hawks did not have their best offensive effort, but were able to hold the Knights to a hitting percentage of .036 to get the win.

The third set proved to be the closest test for the Purple and Gold as NJCU took a 16-13 lead. The Hawks went on a 5-2 run led by kills from Samuel Gibson and Christian Maisonet to tie it up at 18, but the score continued to flip back-and-forth until there was a stalemate at 22-22.

The Hawks kept their composure, forcing Knight errors to take three of the last four points and get the three-set sweep.

Maisonet led the team with seven kills, followed by six each from Blake Hogan and Qendrim Shala. Alec Helford registered 22 assists in the victory, while Hogan chipped in a team-high 10 digs to lead the defense.

The Hawks return to the court on Monday, February 18 when they begin conference play with a tri-match against CCNY and York College.
