Men's Volleyball Sweeps Competition in First CUNYAC Tri-Match

Hawks Defeat CCNY and York

Jamaica, N.Y. - Hunter College men's volleyball opened up CUNYAC play on Monday by defeating CCNY and York College, each in three sets in a tri-match.

The Hawks improved to 7-3 overall this season and started conference competition with a perfect mark of 2-0.

Hunter 3, CCNY 0
The Purple and Gold started off the day with a sweep of the Beavers, taking them down with scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-22.

The squad posted 36 kills, holding CCNY to a hitting percentage of .077 in the victory.  Seven players recorded a kill in the game as Blake Hogan and Qendrim Shala produced nine kills apiece to lead the offense. Cyrus De Guzman added seven kills on no errors to hit 1.000.

Alec Helford posted 26 assists and six digs, while Chris Scandole led with nine digs in the win.

Hunter 3, York 0
The Hawks closed out the day with another victory, defeating York in three sets that featured scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-20.

Hunter hit an impressive .319 in the game, as the Cardinals posted a mark of just .019. The team also managed a season-high of 19 service aces, with Samuel Gibson recording six of them.

Christian Maisonet registered a team-high 15 kills in the win, followed by Gibson's eight. Sebastian Vargas led the Hunter offense by tallying 29 assists.

The Hawks return to the court on February 25 when they travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
