Hawks Sweep Dolphins

Riverdale, N.Y. - Hunter College men's volleyball won its eighth-straight match on Monday night, taking down the College of Mount Saint Vincent in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-10.

The Hawks improved to 8-3 overall this season and have not lost a match since their first tournament of the season. The Dolphins dropped to 1-4 on the year.

Hunter scored the first five points of the first set and then jumped out to a 22-5 lead. The Dolphins went on a 7-1 run, but the Hawks closed it out off MSV errors to get the edge in the match.

Leading 4-3 in the second, Sebastian Vargas served seven-straight to help the Hawks make the score 11-3. Mount Saint Vincent didn't go away easily, catching up to trail by just four points, but Cyrus De Guzman recorded three kills and a service ace to lead the Hawks to a 23-14 advantage. Samuel Gibson tallied a kill to help Hunter take the second set, 25-15.

With the Purple and Gold up 12-6, they showed no mercy in the third as they scored seven-straight points off kills from Gibson, Sherrod Cole, Blake Hogan and Michael Jazgarski. De Guzman added two more service aces to keep the Hawks in control.

Gibson sealed the victory by getting the last two kills of the set to give the Hawks a 3-0 win.
