Queens Village, N.Y. - Hunter College men's tennis took down #5 seed John Jay College on Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament with a final score of 5-1.
The Hawks advance to the semifinals where they'll take on #1 seed Baruch College.
Hunter won two of the three doubles contests as
Sean Kemp and
Ryan Hwang got an 8-1 victory at the #2 court. The #3 doubles pair of
Omer Khalifa and
Kyle Burrus secured an 8-2 win to give the Hawks the lead going into singles competition.
Needing three wins in singles, #2 Kemp found a 6-0, 6-1 victory over John Jay's Michael Barkagan. Khalifa then defeated his opponent at the #3 spot with scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Jose Agregado closed it out for the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the #4 court to give Hunter the 5-1 win.
The Purple and Gold will face Baruch on Sunday, April 28 at 12 p.m. at USTA.
