Kings Point, NY – The women's swimming and diving team suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday evening to the United States Merchant Marine Academy by a score of 141-79. The loss moves the Purple and Gold to 6-1 overall while they remain undefeated in conference action at 3-0.
The women were able to snag two individual event wins and one relay victory. In the 100 yard backstroke,
Sarah Decker placed first in the field of six competitors with a time of 1:04.44 which was nearly one and a half seconds faster than her nearest challenger. The only other event winner was
Virginia Anne Dundon who dominated the 100 yard breaststroke. She posted a time of 1:12.21 which bested second place Erica Lou of USMMA by 2.45 seconds.
The Hawks two runner up finishes came courtesy of
Sera Knobler and
Cloe Mueller. Knobler swam in the 200 yard IM and posted a time of 2:26.99 while Mueller touched the wall in 1:00.05 in the 100 yard freestyle.
The women's 400 yard freestyle relay squad comprised of Decker,
Gabrielle Oczos,
Alice Tsai and Mueller joined together to take top honors in a time of 4:02.59. Meanwhile, in the other relay, the 400 yard medley, Tsai, Dundon, Oczos and Knobler posted a time of 4:25.03 which was good enough for second place.
The Hawks return to the pool on Friday where they have a busy day. In the morning, they will travel to Union, NJ to compete against Kean at 11 am and then will rest before hosting York later that evening at 6pm.
