Women's Volleyball Cruises in Straight Sets Over Ramapo

The Hawks are on a six game win streak.

New York, NY – The women's volleyball team coasted to a 3-0 shutout over Ramapo College earlier this evening in their first home match of the season. Behind impressive set hitting percentages all above .350, Hunter dominated the offensive end while holding strong defensively to win their sixth straight and level out their record at 8-8 on the year.

Despite falling behind at the 10-6 mark in the first set, the Purple and Gold used a 7-1 run that featured four kills and a service ace to get back on top, 13-11. Another 6-1 run, bookended by kills from Beverly Wong gave her team the late 20-14 advantage. Two Ramapo errors over the final stretch aided in the Hawk's 25-16 first set win.

In the second, the Hawks jumped out to a 13-6 lead which proved to be insurmountable. They were in the driver's seat the whole way and closed with four unanswered points with Justine Smith grabbing the set's final kill to make it a 25-12 set victory and the 2-0 lead.

It was the same story as the previous sets; Hunter jumping out to an early 7-1 lead. Despite the two sides trading points, the six point home team lead was too big of a difference to make up. Three Ramapo attack errors, coupled with a kill from Mariam Ouattara compromised a late 4-0 run, setting the stage at 23-12. Ramapo would cut into the lead by six but it was too little too late as kills from Mariapaz Lojano and Ouattara put the nails in the coffin, 25-18 and the match victory.

As a team, the Purple and Gold hit .400 thanks to 39 kills on 85 attempts with just five errors. Lojano was the game high kill earner with 10 while Smith tallied a game high 27 assists. Defensively, Alexa Sayson and Erin Hyman were each credited with 12 digs.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 16 when they host a tri-match featuring Montclair State and Mount Saint Mary College. Hunter will begin against MSU at 10am and finish with MSM at 2pm. The two visiting team will square off at noon.
