Women's Volleyball Downs St. Joseph's on the Road

Patchogue, N.Y.- Women's volleyball defeated Saint Joseph's College, 3-1, on the road Thursday night at Danzi Stadium.

Highlighted by Beverly Wong's season-high 13 digs, the Hawks (3-8) downed St. Josephs's (4-8) in four sets.

The first set opened up in a back-and-forth until Hunter soared from behind to score six unanswered, taking the lead 15-11. A lone kill by the Island Golden Eagles broke the streak briefly, but the Purple and Gold would refocus to score another five consecutive points, creating an eight point separation from the home team. Saint Joseph's was unable to come back and the Hawks took the first, 25-19. The second set showed signs of life from the Eagles as an attack error and kill broke the 24-24 tie to win the set, 26-24.

Brining back the energy for the third set, the Hawks would pull away from the back-and-forth battle ensuing early in the set to go on another six point streak. From there the Hawks kept their lead taking down the Eagles, 25-18. Hunter led for the entirety of the fourth set, cruising to a 25-22 victory to take the match.

The squad returns to the court for its conference opening tri-match on Oct. 9. Hosted by John Jay College, the Hawks will take on the Bloodhounds at 10 a.m. followed by City College of N.Y. at noon.
