Swimming Zaps Lightning Out of Pool in Home Opener

The Hawks won every event at the dual meet

New York, NY – The swimming and diving team made an impressive home debut as they hosted the Lightning of Lehman College earlier this evening. In the dual meet that had 11 contested events, the Purple and Gold were tops in each of them.
 
Germayne Chau, Kinsella Reis, Nancy Leal and Andrea Rodriguez combined for a win in the 200 yard medley with a time of 2:09.59 to kick off the meet.
 
Nancy Leal was the evening's first individual winner after she touched the wall in 2:15.97 in the 200 yard free with Sarah Decker just five seconds behind. The Hawks had another 1-2 punch with Ava Maffucci and Reis going 27.78 and 28.28 respectively in the 50 yard free. Mafucci was also the winner in the 100 yard free after stopping the clock at 1:10.32.
 
Chau, Che Rel Haywood, Decker and Reis all won their respective events, out swimming every Lehman challenger.
 
In the nightcap, the Hawks had a quartet comprised of Chau, Decker, Haywood and Maffucci who clocked in at 1:53.15 in the 200 yard freestyle relay to conclude the evening.

The squad is back in action on Saturday, November 13 when they travel out to Long Island to take on St. Joseph's. First swim is at noon.
