New York, NY – The swimming and diving team kicked off their 2021-22 campaign last week with a dual match against John Jay. The Hawks won the better half of the 11 events that were contested en route to their first victory, swimming away with a 48-38 win.

Kicking off the meet was the 200 yard medley relay in which the Hawks had just one familiar face; Sarah Decker. She was joined by Nancy Leal, Ava Maffucci and Emily Reis and the quartet swam to a time of 2:05.67 which was over 12 seconds better than John Jay. In the only other relay, the 200 yard freestyle relay, the Purple and Gold were once again successful, registering a time of 1:53.13 thanks to nearly the same team; this time substituting Germayne Chau for Reis.

Individually, Chau was a double event winner and dominated in both her races. She placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:30.30) by nearly 26 seconds and was over 21 seconds faster than her nearest competitor in the 100 yard backstroke (1:27.62).

Che Rel Haywood and Andrea Rodriguez went 1-2 in the 50 yard free with times of 28.93 and 30.31 respectively. Meanwhile, Sarah Decker topped the field in the 500 yard free (6:13.06), beating Cami Achury by less than five seconds. Finally, Reis and Amina Duplijak finished first and second in the 100 yard breast stroke with marks of 1:22.16 and 1:24.64.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, November 10 when they host Lehman in the North Pool at 6pm.
