New York - The women's basketball team had a late push that nearly erased a 12 point deficit but fell shy to the York College Cardinals, 66-61. With the loss, the Purple and Gold drop to 3-10 on the year and remain winless in conference action at 0-4.
On the strength of 6-11 shooting from behind the arc,
Kimberly Lau score 19 of her game high 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Hawks. Meanwhile, teammate
Kristina Krslovic posted 12 points with 6 board while Morgan agrees grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the loss.
Leading 11-8 midway through the first, a triple from Gress sparked an 8-0 Hunter run to give them an 11 point advantage. However, the visitors managed to make it a seven-point affair at the end of the first.
In the second, a three pointer from Kristina Sierra at the 4:50 mark gave York the 28-26 lead. Hunter responded with back-to-back triples to regain the lead. As the quarter wound down, the score was knitted at 35 apiece until Ellma Hodzik made good on a layup with just a few ticks of the clock remaining to send the game into halftime 37-35; advantage York.
The third quarter proved detrimental to Hunter. The Hawks were unable to find their offensive rhythm, resulting in just two points while their challengers dropped 10. At the start of the final 10 minutes, Head Coach
John Garrett's team managed to come back to pull within three points lye thanks to Lau's hot shooting. However, they ran out of real estate after York's Mac-Dege Dessources connected on two free throws to seal the deal.
Hunter looks to get back on track when they host CCNY on Friday, January 21. Tip-off is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
