Brooklyn, NY- In the tri-match hosted by Brooklyn College tonight, the Hunter College Hawks took home 3-0 victories over both CUNYAC foes York College, and Brooklyn College. Hunter improves to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play.
Match #1- In the first match Hunter played York College, winning 25-9, 25-4, 25-10. Senior middle
Pearl Mensah led the offense with a career high 12 kills on 18 attempts, hitting a career high .556. Not to be outdone Hunter's other Middle Senior captain
Mariam Ouattara had 9 kills on 13 swings hitting .538. The two middles had 21 of the 35 Hunter kills.
Leading the team with 13 points Junior
Erin Dugan had 7 kills, to go along with 6 services aces, including 7 digs on the back line. Freshman
Kyrsten Victorio covered the back line with 11 digs, a career high, Senior outside
Beverly Wong led the Hawks with 7 aces.
As a team the Hawks had 35 kills, 19 aces, hit .344 and had 34 assists. In the first set Freshman Setter
Bethany Tomaneng had 9 assists, in sets 2 and 3 Junior Setter
Kiara Abreu had 21 assists to bring the hawks' home to victory.
Match #2- In a rematch of last year's CUNYAC final at Hunter College, the Hawks took this match 3-0. Freshman middle
Lily Mattison had the best game of her young collegiate career. Mattison had a game high 14 kills on 21 swings, hitting .619, all career highs. She also picked up a solo block and 2 block assists for a total of 16 points. Her partner in the middle Senior
Mariam Ouattara had 8 kills and 1 solo block.
Pacing the offense was Freshman setter
Bethany Tomaneng who had 21 of the teams 34 assists, and when Tomaneng was not dishing out the assists Junior Setter
Kiara Abreu was, and picked up 11 assists.
Tionna Moss was the Hawks leader on the outside with 7 kills and hit .467 with 2 block assists. Senior Libero
Nadia Lau had 11 digs, and also had a team game 5 aces for the Hawks.
As a team the Hawks had 42 Kills, 8 blocks, 39 assists, 12 aces and 32 digs. Next up Hunter travels to Sarah Lawrence for a match on Thursday night. Hunter returns home on Saturday when they host a CUNYAC tri-match with John Jay and CCNY
