Hunter remains undefeated; defeating St. Joseph's-Long Island 128-68

Patchouge, NY- The Hunter College Women's Swimming team concluded their early season road trip with a win at St. Joseph's Long Island.  The Hawks took home the win with a team score of 128-68, taking first place in 8 or the 11 events, and sweeping the relays.

Right from the start Hunter took the lead with a team win in the 200 Medley relay.  Hunter finished first with a combined time of 2:02.25, Germayne Chau started things off with an opening leg 29.75, the second leg was Che'Rel Haywood with an impressive 35.30 she handed it off to Lian Winter who went 29.48 in the 3rd leg, and Kinsella Reis anchored the relay with a 27.72 to grab the first 11 points of the meet.    In the 3rd event of the day Kiana Guarino took home first place in the 200 freestyle with a 2:10.69 winning by nearly 3 seconds.  In the 5o Free Kateryna Titarenko brought home the third win of the day with a 27.99 to claim 9 more points for the Hawks.

 Event #5 was the 200 IM and Hunter finished first and second, Germayne Chau took home the win finishing at 2:26.75, while teammate Cara Chang grabbed second place with a 2:30.30.  In the 100 yard freestyle event Cara Change took first place with a 59:32, Kateryna Titarenko took home second place with a 1:03.71 giving Hunter a 1-2 finish by two of their  standout first year swimmers.  The 100 Backstroke Hunter swept the podium with a 1, 2, 3 finish.  Leading the pack was Germayne Chau, followed by teammates Kiana Guarino and Sarah Decker.  Hunter took 16 of the 19 points up for grabs in this event.

Hunter closed out the win by going first and second in the 100 yard breaststroke event, led by Che'Rel Haywood who finished 1:17.81 and Vanessa Betancur who finished 1:19.38.  In the last event of the day Hunter had their a team for the 200 yard relay and they won by more than 8 seconds, swimming a faster leg in each of the four transistions.  Cara Chang led off the relay with a 27.16, followed by Kateryna Titarenko 28.15, Gwendolyn Posner 28.89, and the anchor leg was Kiana Guarina with a 27.77, for a combined time of 1:51.97.

Hunter returns to action on Friday 12/2 with their first home meet of the year, and their first conference meet also.  Hunter will host John Jay on Friday 12/2 at 6pm in the north pool.
