BOX SCORE 2 Danbury, Conn.- The Hunter College women's volleyball team split a tri-match on the road this weekend. The Hawks started the day with a sweep of Keene state but fell in their second match, 0-3, against Western Connecticut State.
The Hawks currently sit at 5-3 overall. Hunter won in straight sets over Keene, led by Mariam Outtara with 11 kills.
Simone McIntyre logged nine kills of her own, while
Tionna Moss added an additional eight. Hunter dominated in all three sets, with a 26-16, 25-16, and 25-18Â victories over the 2-10 Owls. As a team, Hunter managed 37 kills for a .337 hitting percentage in comparison to Keene's .085.
While serving,
Nadia Lau and Mariapaz Lojana each had a trio of aces while
Beverly Wong added two of her own. In addition,
Bethany Tomaneng had an impressive 28 assists.
The Hawks put up a fight against Western Connecticut but we unable to overcome their opponent in each of the sets. The first saw a close 23-25 loss to the home team and Hunter stayed close for the majority of the second set until it's opponent scored five points in a row to take set no. 2, 25-17.
Hunter fell behind early in the third and final set but came back with three consecutive points including kills from Moss and
Lily Mattison to put the Hawks within two. The Purple and Gold continued to fight but were unable to overcome its opponent once again and fell 22-25.
The stat lines proved close with Hunter logging 29 kills, 16 errors and hitting at .131 while Western Conn. posted 34 kills with 19 errors and .140. The Wolves stellar serving proved to be the difference as the team logged 10 aces in comparison to Hunter's lone ace by Lojano.
The Hawks return to the court on Sept. 27 against Pratt at 7 pm.
