Hunter threepeats as CUNYAC Swimming Champions

The Hawks swept the regular season, championship and MVP for the third straight season

Bronx, N.Y.-  At the Lehman College APEX center this past weekend the Hunter College Swimming team won it's third consecutive conference championship.  The Hawks are also the three time defending regular season champions, and have had the MVP of the meet for the last three seasons.

Hunter's Mia Chang was names the Championship's Most Valuable Performer for her outstanding weekend, totaling five gold medals, including first-place efforts in the 500-freestyle relay, 200-yard freestyle, 1650-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Hunter's set 4 new championship records, Kiana Guarino set the new standard in the 200 Yard IM with a 2:14.61, which is also a new school record.  Teammate Germayne Chau who finished second in the race also broke the previous CUNYAC and School record in this race.  Chau did break her own school record in the 100 back with a 58.96 which is the new standard in the CUNYAC championships aswell.  Guarino set another record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.74, which is a record for both the championship and Hunter college.  Lastly the Freshman was not done as she was the lead off leg for the 400 yard freestly relay that smashed the previous CUNYAC record by more than 4 seconds, the Hawks took home the championship with style.  Hunter had Guarino on the opening leg, followed by senior Che'Rel Haywood, Mia Chang and Cara Chang as the anchor legs.

Hunter also set  2 additional school records.  To start the three day championship off the 200 yard Freestyle relay set a new school standard with a 1:43.76, the opening leg swam by Germayne Chau, followed by Che'Rel Haywood, Kinsella Reis and Cara Chang.   In the 200 Breaststroke with Senior Che'Rel Haywood in a time of 2:31.34, 
 
The Hawks were the dominant program across the course of the weekend, totaling 323 points. Hunter's 323 points are the most at the championship meet since 2017, when the Hawks produced 599 points. The 146-point margin of victory is the largest gap since 2013.  In total Hunter took home 15 golds 6 silvers and 3 bronze.  Hunter placed in 1st, 2nd or third in all but one of the 20 races held over the weekend.
