Cinelli Named Coach of the Year; Four Hawks Earn All-Star Recognition

Flushing, N.Y.- The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its 2023 All-Star Awards with head coach, Dan Cinelli earning Coach of the Year honors along with four players selected for first and second team recognition.

In just his second season with the Hawks, Cinelli led Hunter to a 5-1-1 conference record and the No. 2 seed in the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Championship, highlighted by a regular season victory over Baruch. "I am humbled as honored to be nominiated as the CUNYAC conference Coach of Year," says Cinelli, "I would like to give a big thank you to my coaching staff, student athletes, and athletic staff, without their hard work and commitment to elevating the soccer program here at Hunter this award would not be possible."

Two student-athletes in Matthew Heimowitz and Bradley Espejo were named First Team All-Stars this year. Heimowitz produced an impressive season in the net for the Hawks with a 5-3-1 record where he amassed 67 saves, including a career-high nine in a 5-1 win over conference rival, Baruch.

Espejo earned a spot on the All-Star team after being named Player of the Week twice this season. The senior leads the conference in shots (52)  and shots on goal (27). He also ranks no.1 in points with nine goals and five assists averaging 1.92 points per game.

Conor Sullivan and Kristopher Lage earned spots on the second team. Sullivan was a vital member of the team's defense this season making 12 starts across 14 appearances, contributing to Hunters top-three ranking in goals allowed this season. Lage started in all 14 games in the midfield for Hunter this season,  netting three goals across 15 shots and one assist this season.

Kenneth Ortiz was named to the Sportsmanship Team after appearing in 11 games with two starts in the midfield for the Hawks.
