New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's swimming team defeated Baruch College in the ARC Aquatic Center on Friday evening, 119-84. With the win, the Hawks remain a perfect 3-0 in conference and 6-5 overall, as they sit in first place in the CUNYAC while Baruch was handed its first loss of the season, as they slide into second place in conference at 2-1 (7-1 overall).
Although the Bearcats took first in six events compared to the Hawks' five, Hunter's well-rounded performance with swimmers finishing top five in all events lead them to victory.
Kiana Guarino placed first in the 200-meter IM at 2:36.85 for Hunter's first gold of the meet.
Germayne Chau had two first place performances, first in the 100-meter backstroke where she finished in 1:08.13, followed by Guarino in second at 1:10.60. She later took first in the 100-meter breaststroke crossing the finish line in 1:23.12.
Nancy Leal also took home a first place finish for the Hawks in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:19.91. The Hawks secured the win in the final race of the day grabbing first and second in the 200-meter freestyle relay.
The Hawks continue their season on Tuesday Jan. 9 for a conference meet against Brooklyn College at 6:00 p.m. on the road.
