Matthew Heimowitz, was resilient throughout regulation and overtime, with Heimowitz making five crucial saves to keep Baruch at bay.
Hunter's offense pressed forward, registering ten shots in regulation, with key attempts from
Bradley Espejo,
Ben Avakook, and
Leonardo Kaplan. Avakook's persistence nearly paid off multiple times, with two close shots that were saved by Baruch's keeper, Jon Legasa. Espejo also pushed hard, forcing a late save in the second half that underscored Hunter's determination to break through.
After neither side could find the net through double overtime, the match went to penalty kicks. Hunter proved clinical, with Avakook,
Conor Sullivan, and Espejo all converting their shots. Heimowitz's heroics shone again as he saved multiple Baruch attempts, ultimately sealing the 3-0 shootout victory for Hunter.
This hard-fought win propels Hunter (4-10-2) into the CUNYAC semifinals, where they will face #2-seed CCNY on Saturday, November 2. Kick-off is slated for 12 pm at CCNY.
