Rutherford, N.J.- The Hunter College swim team opened up its season on Friday evening with a dual meet at Felician University, ultimately falling 46-150.
Germayne Chau led the charge for the Hawks with a solid swim in the 100m backstroke, finishing first with a time of 1:11.97 and earning a crucial 9 points for Hunter. Chau also placed third in the 200m IM, clocking in at 2:44.71. Parvina Makhmadalieva and
Gwendolyn Posner both impressed in distance events. Makhmadalieva took third in the 800m freestyle (12:11.90) and third in the 100m backstroke (1:21.43), while Posner finished fourth in the 800m free (12:23.14) and fifth in the 400m freestyle (5:59.14).
In short distance races,
Cara Chang put up a fight in the 200m free (2:40.31, fourth) and the 100m freestyle (1:12.63, third).
Mia Chang also displayed resilience in the 50m free, finishing fourth with a time of 32.34, and in the 400m freestyle, where she placed fourth (5:57.30).
In relays, the 400m freestyle team consisting of
Sua Cho,
Kateryna Titarenko, Posner, and Makhmadalieva combined efforts for a final time of 5:18.29, capturing second place.
The Hawks return to the pool on Nov. 9 as the squad heads to Montclair, N.J. to compete against Montclair State and CSI.
