New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College indoor track and field teams competed at the Ramapo Season Opener at the Armory on Friday, as Hunter continued to post conference best results.
The men's team was led by junior
Melvil Badier who ran the 3000m for a time of 9:09.96, a 13th place overall finish, as well as a personal-best and the top time in the conference to date. Not far behind him was
Brian Guillermo, who clocked in at 9:18.46 for the conference's second-best time, while
Hengzhi Zhu crossed the tape in 9:59.09 (fourth in CUNYAC). Freshman,
Leonardo Kaplan also stood out, finishing the men's mile with the conference's second-best time of 4:49.
Benjamin Landheim also posted a personal best time of 23.74 in the men's 200m.
The women's team put up a well-rounded performance both on the track and in the field. In sprints,
Becky Li led the Hawks, with a time of 8.50 in the 60m, while finishing the 200m race with a personal-best time of 28.94, both of which ranked fourth in the conference for each event.
Jamie Risso, and
Thais Beckford also put up commendable performances in the 60m, with respective times of 8.51 and 8.65.
Mikaelle Cesar continued to impress for the Hawks this week, as she ran the 400m in 1:04.94, ranking second in the conference.Â
Tahlea Murray recorded a personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 10.67, as well as Risso just in front at 10.42.
The Hawks also stood out in field events, with Risso taking sixth overall in the long-jump with a mark of 5.18m, followed by Murray with a mark of 4.59m. In the triple jump, Murray led the Hawks, finishing eighth overall with a personal-best mark of 10.39m, followed by
Rubilyn Navarro (9.46m) and Li (9.25). Closing out jumps for Hunter wasÂ
Daria Niebrzydowski, last year's conference champion, who finished 14th overall at 1.47m in the high jump.
The Purple and Gold return to the track on Jan. 25 for the Ocean Breeze Invitational.
