Staten Island, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's indoor track and field team delivered a series of strong performances at the Wagner Invitational on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. With several standout results and high rankings in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), the Hawks continued to demonstrate their prowess early in the season.
In the 60-meter dash, Becky Li clocked a time of 8.50, solidifying her position as the current No. 1 in CUNYAC, with a season-best of 8.42. Teammate Thais Beckford finished in 8.60, placing her 5th in the conference rankings.
The 60-meter hurdles featured Jamie Risso, who finished 9th overall with a time of 11.01, securing the 4th spot in CUNYAC. Beckford added to her day with an 11th-place finish at 14.14, ranking 6th in the conference.
Beckford also competed in the 200 meters, clocking 30.20 for 14th place overall and 6th in CUNYAC.
In the 400 meters, Isabella Moseley posted a time of 1:10.35, finishing 11th overall and 4th in the conference.
The Hawks excelled in the 800 meters, with Mikaelle Cesar taking 8th place overall in 2:40.45, earning the top spot in CUNYAC. Samantha Suriel followed closely in 9th place at 2:47.75, claiming the second-best time in the conference.
Hunter's distance runners delivered a strong showing in the mile, led by Shannon Ferri, who placed 11th overall with a time of 5:50.86, earning the No. 1 rank in CUNYAC. Emma "Peach" Kilroy (6:41.89, 13th overall) and Melanie Liu (6:44.70, 14th overall) also contributed with 3rd- and 4th-place rankings in the conference, respectively.
The Hawks' 4x400-meter relay team of Mikaelle Cesar, Salma El Bezzaoui, Irving Jiang, and Samantha Suriel recorded a time of 4:40.56, finishing 4th overall and second in the CUNYAC standings.
In field events, Jamie Risso shone in both the long jump and triple jump, placing 2nd overall in each event. Risso recorded marks of 5.27 meters in the long jump and 10.82 meters in the triple jump, earning the top spot in CUNYAC for both events.
In the high jump, Daria Niebrzydowski cleared 1.50 meters, finishing 2nd overall and securing the No. 1 ranking in CUNYAC.
The Hawks' impressive performances at the Wagner Invitational position them as strong contenders as they continue their indoor track and field season.
