STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The Hunter College swim team competed at its first try-meet of the season, falling to College of Staten Island, 66-157, and Pace University, 52-177.
Despite the losses, the Hawks showed promise particularly from their freshman class.
Grace Valette led the charge, placing first in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:45.54. She also grabbed a silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:05.11.
Gwendolyn Posner also posted individual points for the Purple and Gold, placing fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 3:13.63.
Hunter also collected points from its relay teams. In the 200-yard medley relay,
Kateryna Titarenko, and
Cara Chang teamed up with rookies
Annie Huang and Valette, for a fourth place finish with a total time of 2:10.06. The 400-yard freestyle relay also placed fourth as
Hailey-Madison Quiller,
Denisse Rojas, Posner, and Valette, teamed up for a 4:02.56 finish.
The Hawks return to the pool on Nov. 6 as they open conference competition at John Jay.
