NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's swim team opened up conference competition at John Jay College on Thursday evening, posting a dominant 71-24 win while multiple Hawks posted career-best times.
Hunter was led by
Molly Nettles, who took two first place medals. In the 1,000-yard freestyle she touched the wall in 13:19.30, ahead of her previous career-best time of 13:35.71. She also took first in the 500-yard freestyle, with her time of 6:34.85. Rookie,
Grace Valette, also grabbed a pair of first place finishes, in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.73), and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.67).
Senior
Mia Chang scored eight individual points for the Hawks, placing first in the 100-yard freestyle with her time of 1:01.17, and second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:17.43.
Lian Winter also had a standout day in the pool, as she swam for 1:09.85 in 100-yard butterfly for another first place finish for Hunter. Winter also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a personal-best time of 1:21.80 (previously 1:25.41).
Freshman,
Annie Huang, rounded out individual first place finishes for the Purple and Gold, with her time of 2:48.77 in the 200-yard IM, followed by
Nayesha Krishna who took second in 2:54.93.
Gwendolyn Posner posted two second place finishes, garnering six individual points for Hunter, starting with the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 14:04.74, and then in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 6:49.38. Also taking home silvers for the Hawks was
Cara Chang in the 50-yard freestyle (27:43),
Lily Bradshaw in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.98), and
Anastasiia Lyshyk in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.01).
Hailey-Madison Quiller closed out individual scorers, placing third in the 50-yard freestyle in 28:09. Additionally, Quiller posted the third career-best time of the day for the Hawks, with a time of 1:30.82 in the 100-yard breaststroke (previously 1:31.28).
In relays, M. Chang, Posner,
Kateryna Titarenko, and Bradshaw teamed up to take first in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:53.20.
Hunter returns to action on Nov. 12, hosting Lehman College at 6 p.m. in the North Pool.
