Bronx, N.Y.- The Hunter College swim team closed out the second day of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon, sitting just two points behind first place.
The Hawks currently hold second place with 163 points, trailing Baruch College, which leads with 165 points. John Jay College sits in third with 107 points, while Brooklyn College and Lehman College round out the standings with 69 and 37 points, respectively.
Germayne Chau continued her dominant performance at the championships, securing her second individual gold medal of the weekend in the 100-yard backstroke. She clocked in at 59.38, finishing just shy of the CUNYAC record of 58.96, which she currently holds. In addition to her individual success, Chau played a key role in both of Hunter's relay teams, helping each squad earn a silver medal.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Chau teamed up with
Kiana Guarino,
Lian Winter, and
Kateryna Titarenko, as the group finished second with a time of 1:56.23. Chau also led off the Hawks' 800-yard freestyle relay team, joining
Mia Chang,
Cara Chang, and Parvinabonu Makhmaldelieva to secure another second-place finish in 9:10.09.
The Purple and Gold  had multiple swimmers place in the top eight of several events. In the 100-yard backstroke, Winter secured a podium finish, placing third with a time of 1:06.18, while
Anastasiia Lyshyk finished in seventh place with a time of 1:12.28. Guarino, last year's meet MVP, earned a silver medal in the 400-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 5:04.76.
Nayesha Krishna also had a strong performance in the event, placing fourth with a time of 6:01.86. Winter added another individual medal in the 100-yard butterfly, where she took second place in 1:03.43.
Hailey-Madison Quiller also performed well in the event, finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:08.33.
The Hawks had a strong showing in the 200-yard freestyle, led by C. Chang, who earned a silver medal with a time of 2:12.12.
Gwendolyn Posner then took fifth with a time of 2:24.67, followed by Titarenko (2:25.19) and Lyshyk (2:31.22) in sixth and seventh, respectively.
Guarino added another podium finish for the Hawks in the 100-yard breaststroke in third (1:14.52), while M. Chang placed fifth with a time of 1:16.92.
Hunter will return to the pool on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for the final day of competition, looking to take the lead and defend its CUNYAC championship title.
