BOX SCORE NEW YORK- The Hunter College women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday night, overpowering CCNY 101-35 at home in the team's Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The Hawks (17-5, 11-1 CUNYAC) set the tone early, racing out to a 39-8 lead after the first quarter and never looking back.
Alexa Charles led the way with a double-double, tallying 25 points, 12 rebounds, and seven steals, while Gianna Henriques controlled the paint with another double-double of her own, logging 15 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks.Â
Kennedy DeRuy showcased her efficiency, scoring 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting while adding six rebounds and five assists. The junior forward played a key role in keeping the Hawks' momentum rolling in the second and third quarters, crashing the boards and finishing strong in the paint. Senior, Erin Cosio also tallied double-digit points, adding 11 as she went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.Â
Dorthea Yoakum capitalized on her first start of the season, displaying her defensive versatility with a block and three rebounds. She also added three points from the free-throw line, showing composure in her time on the court.
Hunter's bench was dominate, exemplifying the teams depth with 33 total points. Wanhua Peng contributed across the stat sheet, scoring 15 points while knocking down a three-pointer and converting a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. The junior guard was active defensively, tallying a block and a steal while grabbing five rebounds.
Sophie Stratton made her presence felt off the bench, drilling a three-pointer and finishing with seven points. Her defensive pressure and energy helped keep CCNY off balance in the latter stages of the game. Elizabeth Asimakopoulous added five points and five rebounds, while sophomore Emma Tung added a block.Â
The Hawks shot a blistering 57.6% from the field and dominated the glass, outrebounding CCNY (1-16, 1-10 CUNYAC) 54-24. Hunter's suffocating defense held the Beavers to just 20% shooting, forcing 26 turnovers and converting them into 30 points.
The Purple and Gold continues the final stretch of conference play on Feb. 15 as they head to Lehman College for a 1:00 p.m. start.Â
