BOX SCORE HOBOKEN, N.J. — The Hunter College men's volleyball team faced a tough challenge on the road Tuesday night, falling to Stevens in straight sets (15-25, 15-25, 11-25) at Canavan Arena.
The Hawks (1-5) struggled to find their rhythm offensively, hitting -.028 as a team while being held to just 20 total kills.
Ahmed Mohamed led the way for Hunter with an efficient five-kill performance on a .571 hitting percentage, adding a service ace and two digs.
Admir Cekic and
Demetri Gournelos each contributed five kills, with Cekic also recording two blocks.
Hunter fought hard in the opening set, keeping pace early before Stevens pulled away with a strong attacking performance. Despite efforts from
Felipe Delgado and
Lucas George at the net, the Hawks couldn't slow down the Ducks' offense, which hit .524 in the first frame.
In the second set, the Hawks found more offensive consistency, posting a .105 hitting percentage— their best of the night— behind contributions from
Kyle Foley, who notched three kills, and setter
Wesley Stubbs, who tallied eight assists. Hunter remained within striking distance for much of the set, but a late run by Stevens secured a 2-0 match lead.
The final set saw Hunter struggle to generate momentum, as Stevens continued its efficient play at the net. The Ducks limited the Hawks to just six kills in the frame, closing out the match with another dominant stretch.
Defensively, Hunter put together 20 digs, led by Gournelos and Yeh Brandon with four apiece. Despite flashes of strong play, the Hawks were unable to overcome Stevens' balanced attack, which finished with a .463 team hitting percentage.
Hunter will look to bounce back as they return to action this weekend for trimatch against Drew and Ramapo.
