NEW YORK — The Hunter College Athletic Department celebrated its 2024–25 season at the annual Athletics Awards Banquet, recognizing student-athletes, coaches and staff for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
The event featured remarks from Director of Athletics
Terry Wansart and Hunter College President Dr. Nancy Cantor, with Assistant Athletic Director
Juliet Vahos serving as the evening's master of ceremonies. Awards were presented throughout the night across several categories, honoring individual and team excellence.
Senior standouts Conor Sullivan, a member of the men's soccer and track and field teams who was also named CUNYAC Male Scholar-Athlete of th Year, and Bethany Tomaneng of women's volleyball, and CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention, received the Golden Hawk Award, the department's highest honor for athletic and academic achievement.
The Elite 18 Award, given to the graduating senior with the highest cumulative GPA and the most completed credits and athletic participation, was awarded to men's volleyball player Nick Yao. Yao also earned a CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention.
Women's basketball senior Erin Cosio received the Purple and Gold Award, recognizing her leadership, service and support of the Hunter athletics community. Cosio also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career this season and ranks among the program's top-10 in several categories including career three-point percentage, career field goal percentage, career three-pointers made, career total-points, single-season three-point percentage and single-season three-pointers made.
The Coaches Appreciation Award was presented to three longtime contributors to the department: Andrew Woolward, who completed his 10th year with the women's volleyball program; Valerie Langlois, who marked her 13th season with the same team; and
John Garrett, who finished his 10th year as head coach of women's basketball.
In addition to major honors, each team recognized its Most Valuable Performer, Most Improved Performer and Coaches Award recipient. Graduating seniors were honored for their dedication to their teams and the department.
The banquet celebrated a successful year that included six CUNYAC Championship titles and two regular-season titles, multiple conference individual awards, over 40 all-star selections and a host of new inductees into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society.
The evening concluded with a video tribute highlighting the Hawks' achievements during a year marked by championship success, academic excellence and all-around dedication.
