KINGS POINT, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's swim team returned to the pool for the first time in the new year, competing in a tri-meet against Merchant Marine and John Jay. The Hawks split the meet, earning a 153-65 victory over John Jay while falling 191-71 to Merchant Marine.
Grace Valette continued to stand out in the pool for Hunter, earning a pair of individual second-place finishes while adding two more silver medals as part of relay teams.
Hunter opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as Valette, Hailey-Madison Quiller, Lian Winter and Lily Bradshaw combined for a team time of 2:02.66. Valette followed with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 2:04.9, followed by Cara Chang, who placed third with her time of 2:20.05.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Bradshaw took second with her time of 1:09.94, followed by Anastasiia Lyshyk in 1:12.82. Quiller continued her strong day in the pool, placing third in the 200-yard butterfly (3:06.78), before securing a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:07.53. She also placed third in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:08.57, followed by rookie Annie Huang at 1:16.4.
Valette added another silver medal with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:22.97, followed by Lyshyk in third at 2:40.41.
The Hawks closed out the meet with another second-place relay finish, as Valette, Winter, Quiller and Denisse Rojas recorded a team time of 4:16.10.
The Hawks return to the pool on Jan. 10 for a 1 p.m. meet at Brooklyn College.
