Madison, NJ – The Hunter men's fencing team picked up 21-6 victory over St. John's University while competing in their first Middle Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association [MACFA] event hosted by Drew University in Madison, NJ. The Hawks finished the day with a 1-4 record.
Against the Red Storm, it was the Hunter epee squad, consisting of senior
Joshua Lopez and sophomores
Michael Quackenbush (Selden, N&Y/Centereach)and
Timothy Stein (Centereach, NY/Centereach), leading the way with a 9-0 win. In foil, the team won 6-3 with sophomore Jose Samora winning all three of his bouts, while junior
Darin Boodram (Richmond Hill, NY/Thomas Edison) and freshman
Kendall Cambridge (Jamaica, NY/Brooklyn Tech) each won two out of three bouts. The sabre team also won 6-3 with sophomore
Douglas Spangler (New York, NY/Fyrisskolan) earning three victories. Sophomores
Aleksey Nisenboym (Briarwood, NY/Forest Hills) and
Angel Rivera (New York, NY/University Neighborhood) each added two victories at sabre.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, December 5 for their home opener against Sacred Heart University at 7:00 p.m. as part of the 2008 Homecoming Celebration. That bout will be played in the B4 Gymnasium of the Hunter Sportsplex.
