Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when she drove in sophomore catcher
Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris), but the Captains of Christopher Newport University scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead and eventual 9-1 win in the first game of the Ferrum Tournament in Salem, VA. In their second game of the day, it would be Roanoke College who come out on top 12-2 in five innings.
Roanoke broke out to the early lead, 2-0 at the end of the first inning. They would tack on two more before taking control of the game in the third inning.
Frank finished the game 2-for-2 with an RBI, while sophomore outfielder
Stephanie Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) went 2-for-2 and scored the Hawks two runs on the day.
