Ospreys Take Two From Hawks, 13-1, 6-4

New York, NY – The Ospreys of Richard Stockton, who entered the day 9-1, were able to take two victories away from the Hawks 13-1 and 6-4 in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday at Ammirati Field on the Lower East Side of New York City.

The first game was a tough outing for the Hawks who were just not able to get things going from the plate, scoring just one run, but letting up 13 including two home runs. The Ospreys, leading 8-1, pulled away in the top of the fifth inning by tacking five runs onto their lead.

The Ospreys continued their scoring spree in the first inning of the second game, getting four earned runs off on senior right-hander Allyshia West (Owen Sound, ON/West Hills Secondary), but West would end up shutting them down for the next five innings giving up just three hits, two unearned runs and Struck out five batters.

Hunter got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore catcher Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) sent a shot over the fence in centerfield, her first home run of the season, to bring the Hawks to within in two runs.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, freshman short stop Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) hit a double that brought in two runs and tied the game at four a piece. McKenna finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. The Ospreys regained control of the game in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on a mishandled ball in left field.

Hunter is scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 28 when they host Brooklyn College for a single game at Ammirati Field at 4:00 p.m. This will be followed by a CUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday against Lehman College starting at Noon also at Ammirati Field.
