New York, NY – Sophomore outfielder
Stephanie Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) hit a game ending triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, driving in three runs and fiving the Hunter Hawks a 9-1 victory over Brooklyn College in CUNY Athletic Conference softball action Friday afternoon at Ammirati Field on the Lower East Side of New York City.
S. Alves got the Hawks on the board in the bottom of the first with a single that brought in junior second baseman
Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) and this was followed up by a single from sophomore catcher
Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) that brought
S. Alves home to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, freshman third baseman
Danielle Maresca (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) drove home a run on a single to put the Hawks up 3-0. The Hawks then struck again in the bottom of the fifth, tacking on two more runs.
Brooklyn was able to get a run on the board in the top of the sixth via a double from senior pitcher
Jaime Bellettini (Glendale, NY/Franklin K. Lane) that brought in junior
Nataly Yehezkel (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) to cut the lead to 5-1.
However, Hunter was able to close things out in the bottom of the sixth to improve to 2-0 in the CUNYAC and 4-9 overall. Junior right-hander
Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) earned her first victory of the season, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run and two hits on the day.
Hunter will get a short rest as they return to action on Saturday, when they host Lehman College for a doubleheader of CUNYAC action starting at Noon at Ammirati Field.
