New York, NY – The Hunter College women's softball team just squeaked by the John Jay Bloodhounds Tuesday afternoon, taking the first game 7-6 on a double by catcher Jaqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) in the bottom of the sixth inning that brought home what would become the winning run and then a five-run fifth inning that pushed the Hawks ahead 7-5 to complete the sweep in the nightcap.

Frank led the Hawks in the first game, batting 3-for-3 with a run scored and batted in. Hunter opened the game with two runs in the first and then tacked on four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-1 lead. The Bloodhounds then made the game interesting with four runs in the top of the seventh inning before junior right-hander Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) closed the game out with her ninth strike out of the game. Grilli earns her fourth win of the season on the mound, while freshman Angela Lam (Brooklyn, NY/Newtown) fell to 4-7 with two strike outs and gave up six earned runs for the Bloodhounds.

In the nightcap, the Hawks actually trailed 5-2 heading into the fifth inning where sophomore outfielder Stephanie Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) and had a two run in the park home run and then freshman short stop Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) hit her fourth homer of the season, bringing in two more runs en route to a five-run inning and the eventual 7-5 win.

Alves finished the second game hitting 2-for-4 with two runs scored and batted in, while McKenna hit 2-for-3 with two batted in and scored. In the first game, freshman third baseman Danielle Maresca (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) hit 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored and senior outfielder Priscilla Gonzalez-Alicea (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R.
