New York, NY – Freshman second baseman
Danielle Maresca (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) hit 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two runs batted in to help lead the Hawks of Hunter College to a 14-0 win over the York College Cardinals to improve to 10-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference Friday evening at Ammirati Field in the Lower East Side of New York City.
After bringing home a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Hawks blew the lid off the game in the bottom fo the second, scoring six runs off just two hits. Sophomore center fielder
Stephanie Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) had one of the two hits in the inning with a two RBI double that helped put the Hawks up 7-0.
Hunter continued to pour on the runs in the bottom of the third with
Maresca driving in two runs on a single and then junior
Jennifer Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) hit her second home run of the season, helping three cross home plate, including herself.
Junior right-hander
Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) pitched the one hit complete game, striking out two batters, but not letting up one run for her second shutout of the season. Freshman right-hander
Swelly Cabelo (Brooklyn, NY/Franklin K. Lane) pitched four innings, striking out three batters for the Cardinals.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, when they host the College of Staten Island for a 1:00 p.m. CUNYAC doubleheader at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY.
