Nicole Grilli (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) and senior right-hander
Allyshia West (Owen Sound, ON/West Hills Secondary) helped lead the Hawks with winning performances on the mound during 6-2 & 7-3 doubleheader victories over CUNY Athletic Conference rival Baruch College in softball action Saturday afternoon at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY.
West controlled the first game, pitching seven innings, striking out six batters and allowed just one earned run. From the plate,
Grilli hit 2-for-2 with a run scoring and batted in, while freshman short stop
Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and sophomore catcher
Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY/Stella Maris) went 2-for-4 and also scored a run.
In the second game of the afternoon,
Grilli led the Hawks from the plate hitting 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and senior outfielder
Priscilla Gonzalez-Alices (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R. Murrow) also had a nice outing with two hits, one run scored and one RBI in three at bats.
Grilli also pitched five innings, giving up two earned runs in the winning effort.
West added six strikeouts in two scoreless innings to close out the game.
Hunter now improves to 9-11 overall and 7-0 in the CUNYAC while the Bearcats fall to 11-10 and 5-2 in the conference. The Hawks return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 9 when they travel to Radnor, PA to face the Cavaliers of Cabrini College for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
